Did you know that the WORST person in the world to be with when you see a celebrity is your brother, M? He is down-right embarassing to be around. He likes to plan dinners in LA just so we can see famous people and then he acts like a complete fool when we do.

We once sat across from Scott Baio in a restaurant and M. grabbed my arm and shouted “Look! That’s Scott Baio!” M. then stared freakishly at him for the rest of the night. I wanted to die!

Sometimes I think back on our Clooney encounter and all I can do is laugh. I couldn’t even speak. I think I grunt-giggled because I couldn’t form actual words.

It WAS at Chumley’s that I talked to the Piv! He was nice.

I saw a lot of celebs in and around Chicago, but the most memorable were geeks or musicians – sitting in a booth across from Ira Glass (he was ridiculously hard to spot in the early aughts), I had a beer with Liz Pair at Delilah’s ( I was just drunk enough to plop down next to her and start shooting the shit), and I used to see Billy Corgan all the time in a then-boyfriend’s neighborhood.

I used to work at a t-shirt shop in the Forum Shops of Caesar’s Palace in Vegas and saw a few people wander by. My closest brush with fame is that I sold more the $200 worth of stuff to Kobe Bryant (while he was a huge mega star before all the controversy) and didn’t care a hoot because I didn’t know who he was. (I’m not a sports person at ALL)

In 1999 my friend was dating a guy who was a talent agent, mostly stage actors but also Tangi Miller from Felicity! But we never got to meet her or anyone else until he had a holiday party which was attended by MARK RUFFALO.

I remember only knowing him from this cop show he was filming in my neighborhood at the time, The Beat or something? But it didn’t matter how famous or not famous he was because he was White Hot. Though sadly already with his girlfriend now wife. And nice. Sigh.

I lived in Malibu and LA for seven years total, so I got very used to seeing celebrities everywhere — when I was in fifth grade, I sold Girl Scout cookies to Whoopi Goldberg. In New York, where admittedly my total time has been maybe four months, I’ve never seen anybody, except for one day in the middle of interview week, when Sarah Jessica Parker got in line behind me at the Union Square Sephora. I took it as a good omen.

Seeing George Clooney in person would pretty much be amazing.

I am sorry, but if I saw Julia Roberts in person I would likely go up to her and tell her to stop with the “holier than thou” attitude, because she’s just ACTING, not CURING CANCER or anything equally applaud-able. I have found her so horribly irritating these past several years that I don’t think I’ll go see a single movie she’s in, ever again, unless I can somehow see it for free…and if it has Clive Owen in it.

Sha-whoo! Had to get that off my chest!

Celebrities I’ve seen: Jimmy Kimmel, Ludacris, Nelly, The Wayan’s brothers, Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachey, Kate Capshaw, Brady Quinn, and I’m going to count Ryan Gosling because I saw his band perform in a really-really small venue and I was standing close enough to him to say that he is, definitely, at the top of my “Wish List.”

THE CLOONEY. I tell everyone about that. Also, our Julianne Moore sighting.

Prettiest celeb sighting- Anne Hathaway (who was so nice! she gave tourists directions and chatted with them over dinner!) and Liv Tyler. Oh my gosh, the skin on those two.

Weirdest celeb sighting- Tom Cruise PLOWING down the MIDDLE of 47th St., bopping and bouncing, flanked by two giant (twice his size) bodyguards on either size. He was like, “Traffic! Out of my way!” He radiated crazy so strongly it bounced off the buildings.

Favorite- Angry and disheveled Paul Giamatti on a completely random block in the middle of a weekday afternoon. Not sure why it’s my favorite. He sure looked pissed.

I also saw Jimmy Fallon once, in Boston walking into a hotel when they were filming Fever Pitch. Other than that, I saw an America’s Next Top Model finalist from season something-or-other in an H&M in New York, and that is it. I even lived in Paris all of last year and saw exactly no one. That’s it, I’m adding “spot more celebrities” to my New Year’s resolutions. Which might be hard now that I live in the middle of nowhere. But man, you are set on the cocktail party conversation. I’m jealous.
