100 Things Worth Doing, 1-25

1. Driving cross country with my friend Angela, the windows are down, we’re both barefooted, the smell of dry grass and desert keeps us awake, we drive through Flagstaff at 4:00 a.m. and are surprised to see snow
2. We all take goofy pictures with tissue paper crowns on our heads, at Christmas Eve dinner, at the lake house in New Jersey
3. Playing Celebrity at Thanksgiving dinner in Chelsea with Chris’s cast mates
4. Watching guests enter the church from outside; I’m in the car with Mike, who says to me, “Try to remember all of this.”
5. Riding home with the puppy curled up under my legs
6. Walking to the Promenade at midnight during the blackout with scores of people carrying flashlights in the sticky August night
7. Climbing up the fire escape to the tar paper roof with a book clenched in my teeth and a towel around my shoulders
8. Getting off the subway my first day in New York with no idea where I was
9. Sharing a crossword puzzle with K. as we watch the sun set in Amsterdam from a sidewalk table outside a cafe
10. Perfume shopping in Paris
11. Listening to the Cal A Capella quartet in my grandmother’s living room, serenading her on her 80th birthday
12. Angel food cake with fresh strawberries on my birthday
13. My 30th birthday party: leaving the restaurant as someone comes up to me to tell me I have beautiful shoulders
14. Walking into our apartment after the closing, hearing my footsteps echo as I squint againt the thin sunlight
15. A blizzard on Christmas, our neighborhood doesn’t get plowed until the following day, we walk up and down the middle of the streets looking in windows at all the decorations
16. Putting on a black cocktail dress and heels for dinner at Daniel
17. Caught in a thunderstorm with the dog, in Prospect Park
18. Laura’s rooftop, on Memorial Day, watching the sunset
19. Cutting my hair short, super short
20. Highway 101
21. Splurging on the trench coat I’ve always wanted
22. Walking alone through the gardens at the Rodin museum
23. Holding a headstand in the middle of the room for the first time
24. The climb up the stairs to the top of the Duomo in Florence
25. A totally impractical blonde streak in my hair
